-It is suggested that strategies are especially important for language learning as tools for active, self-directed involvement, which is essential for developing communicative competence (Oxford, 1990). Research shows that the importance of learning strategies lies in their interaction with learner autonomy (O’Malley and Chamot, 1990; Benson, 2006) and learner motivation (Oxford, 1990). Therefore, in order to develop learner autonomy and increase learner motivation, teaching learning strategies and learning styles, which can be achieved through strategy training, is proposed. To examine the effectiveness of strategy training, the writer carried out a training course with some Japanese learners of English, studying at a university of Aichi Prefecture.
